Vision and Mission:

Vision:

v  To emphasize on the holistic department of the students by providing modern and quality education in social science (Sociology).

v  To enrich the knowledge of the student s to become an independent responsible citizen of the society.

Mission: 

v  To offer relevant and quality education to the students with a view of shaping their practical understanding on societal issues, problems, knowledge and awareness to uplift their career.

v  To inculcate research temperament, problem solving methodology and to make the students self reliant,   and responsible in the society by introducing new thoughts and ideas.

Programme Outcome

After completing Undergraduate Programme in Sociology, a student will acquire in depth knowledge of the subjects that he/she studied in UG programme and become competent for further Higher Studies; to prepare for competitive examination and can apply for jobs of his/her interest.

Journal and Magazine

Wall Magazine of the Department of Sociology

Wall Magazine on the theme ‘Samaj aru Mulyabudh’ has been published in the year 2019-2020

Wall magazine on the theme ‘Sanskritir prakashvongi aru porichay’ has been published in the year 2020-21.

Wall magazine on the theme ‘Samaj-Ujjwal’ has been published in the year 2021-22.

Hand Written Magazine

Hand written magazine named ‘Samaj Darpan’ has been published in the year of 2017-18 and 2021-22.

 Department of Sociology under the Sociological Study Centre publish a Newsletter named ‘Sociological Insight‘in every year.

Department published a Compilation copy of Survey Report conducted in Kotikuchia Village, Teok, Jorhat District under the Sociological Study Centre, Department of Sociology.

Achievement of the Department:

 Department of Sociology has been awarded by ACTA, Jorhat Zone and Assam Down Town University for the outstanding achievement of students in University level in the year of 2018 especially for achieving 1^st class 1^{st (}university toper) by Miss Ananya Boruah.

Academic Achievement of students

Sukanya Gohain, Best Graduate (Arts) in the year of 2017. She secured 73.50% in the final exam of Sociology.

In the year of 2018, Ananya Boruah secured 1st class 1^st position in Sociology under Dibrugarh University. She secured 78 %.

Pubali Sarmah awarded as the Best Graduate (Arts) in the year of 2019. She secured 84% in the B.A. final exam in Sociology. She stood top in the Dibrugarh University MA Entrance Exam. Pubali Sarma has cleared NET-JRF, NET, and SLET in 2022. She has enrolled in Ph.D programme in the Department of Sociology, Dibrugarh University in 2023.

Parismita Bhattacharya, alumni of the department (batch 2018-20) has cleared UGC-NET in 2023.

Achievement in Co-Curricular Activity (Department level )

         Department of Sociology got 3^rd prize in Cultural Rally Competition held in the college week in the

Session of 2016-17.

         Department of Sociology got 2nd prize in Cultural Rally Competition held in the college week in the session of 2017-18. The theme of the Rally was ‘Naree Samasya aaru iyar Somadhan’.

         Department of Sociology got 1^stprize in Cultural Rally Competition held in the college week in the session of 2019-20. The theme of the Rally was ‘Aaomoya Bibahor paramporagoto parba : ek Obolukon’

The theme of the Wall Magazine in the session of 2020-21 was ‘Sanskritir prakashvongi aru porichay’ It also achieved 2^nd prize in Wall Magazine Competition in the session of 2020-21.

Departmental Events:

Academic

1.      Department of Sociology organized a special programme on 28/12/2017 on the occasion of Death anniversary of G.S. Ghurye, the father of Indian Sociology. The programme aims to make recognition of Ghurye as father of Indian Sociology.  Lecture delivered by the faculties of the department along with displaying of his contribution towards Sociology in India.

2.      Department of Sociology organized a Special talk on Max Weber, one of the great classical Sociologists on the occasion of his birthday on dated 21/4/2018. Dr. Ruprekha Bordoloi, renowned Sociologist as well as Principal of the College delivered a talk on the contribution of Max Weber.

Popular Talk:

Ø  A popular talk was organized in the department on the topic - Tribal Society in North East India with special reference to Bodo and Khasi tribe on 9/9/2017. 

Ø  A popular talk on ‘Importance of Hypothesis in Social Research’ was organized on 2/4/2019. 

Ø  Department of Sociology organized a webinar on ‘Sociology as Discipline: Importance and Recent Development’ on 15/ 7/2020.

Ø  A popular talk was organized under Sociological Study Centre on 25/2/2021 on the topic ‘Culture and Literature in Social Change’.

Ø   An Online Popular talk on ‘Science, Research and Sociology’ was organized by the department of Sociology on 1^6th November, 2021.Dr.

MoU of the Department

Department of the Sociology signed MoU with Department of Sociology, Cinnamara College Jorhat on 9/2/2021

Career Oriented Programme organized by the Department:

A student workshop on ‘Career: Information and Guidance’ was organized by the department of Sociology on 19/3/2018

Department of Sociology organized a career oriented talk on ‘Sociology as Career Oriented Discipline’ on 13/3/2019 which helped students to think Sociology as a career providing subject. Dr. Ruprekha Bordoloi, active sociologist and Principal of Kakojan College was the Resource person for the programme.

Student Exchange Programme of the Department

A Student Exchange Programme was organized on 15/9/2018 under the supervision of Minakshi MIli, Faculty of the department. Total 45 students were brought to Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat, to attend a lecture on Gender Sensitisation.

Students of the Department visited Cinnamara College to attend a talk College on Research Methodology on 24/12/2022

Faculty Exchange Programme of the Department

Mrs Minakshi Mili Assistant Professor invited to deliver a lecture CKB College, teok as a part of Faculty Exchange Programme organised by CKB College, Teok, Jorhat on 13/9/2019.

Extension Activity

Department of Sociology organised a Cleanliness Awareness Programme on 01/08/2018 at Kakojan Adarsha Parthamik Vidyalaya..

On 17/4/2022 the students of 4^th semester of the department of Sociology, distributed food as corporate responsibility at the time of Bohag Bihu to the destitute in Jorhat city.

Department of Sociology, Kakojan College established a Library in Kotikuchia Village (the adopted village of the college) in collaboration with NSS Unit, on 01/06/2022.The faculty members donated a book shelf, 55 numbers of books and student also donated 10 numbers of books to the library. 

Field Study:

 6^th semester students visited Kakojan  Primary Health Centre nearby Kakojan College to study on the topic ‘pre-natal and post-natal care of the mother and new born baby; A sociological Study on Kakojan Primary Health Centre’ under the supervision of faculty members of the department of Sociology- Dipti Tamuli ,Borsha Rani Bora, Minakshi Mili,  and SnigdhanjolI Kalita on 12/4/2017. The major objective of the study was to observe the facilities provided by PHC, Kakojan to pre -natal and post-natal mothers and new born babies.

On 15/3/2019, the students of 6^th semester visited Kakojan Primary Health Centre to study on Kakojan PHC as a Social Organization. Total 25 number of students observed and collected data on the topic ‘Hospital as Social Organisation; A Sociological Study in reference to Kakojan PHC’ under the supervision of Borsha Rani Bora. The major objective was to observe the relationship between doctor and patient, doctor and nursing staff and availability of material resources and other facilities.

The 4^th semester students of the department of Sociology (2019-20), Kakojan College has done a field study on the topic ‘problems of Old Aged people: A Sociological Study in Kotikuchiya Village, Jorhat, Assam’ on 20/4/2019. The major objective of the field study WAS to find out the problems of old age person the village.

            A field study on Socio- economic condition of Mariya Community with Special reference to Do-Gaon, Kakojan, and Jorhat was done by the Department of Sociology, Kakojan College on 10/9/2019 under the supervision of Borsha Rani Bora and Amorjyoti Borah.

A field study was conducted in Durgabari Tea Estate on 24/9/2019 by the students of 3^rd semester of the Department on the topic ‘Impact of Education in changing trends among the tea garden community, A Sociological Study in Durgabari Tea estate’.

Department tof Sociology Conducted a field study by the students of 6^th semester in Kotikuchiya Village, Teok and Jorhat on 1^st June, 2022 under the supervision of the faculties of the Department. The students were divided into five groups and they collected data on the following aspects in the village – socio-economic condition, political participation, health seeking behavior, agriculture and farming etc.

Students of the 6^th semester conducted field study on various topics such as Socio- Economic Condition, medical pluralism, Self Help Group and Women Empowerment, culture and rituals, political participation and political awareness, Socio-economic Condition of Munda etc. Students collected the data in the month of March – April, 2022

Students of the 6^th semester conducted a field study on their own locality on ‘Medical Pluralism’. They collected data in the month of March and April, 2023.

Field trip:

 1/ A field trip was organized by the Department to Tezpur, A historical place in Assam on 18/3/2018 under the supervision of Minakshi Mili and Borsha Rani Bora.

The 5^th semester students of the department visited Charaideu district, the hisoric place OF Assam on 23/2/2020.

Celebration of Special Day:

v  Department of Sociology organized a special programme in the nearby Girls’ High School on the occasion of International Day of Girl Child on 11/10/2019.

v  An online programme on the occasion of Girl Child Day was organised by the Department of Sociology on 24^th January, 2022.

v  The National Girl Child Day was observed on 24^th January, 2021. A Poster making competition was arranged on the occasion of the day. It was a small effort to fostering the attitude of gender equality and to convey the message of equality among the students through the posters

v  On the occasion of National Girl Child Day on 24^th January, a talk on ‘Child Marriage as a social problem’ was organized by the Department on 25^th January, 2023.

v  Alumni Meet was held on 1^st April, 2023, organised by Department.
