About the Department

DEPARTMENT AT A GLANCE
Our glorious Kakojan College was established on 24th July, 1967. In the same year, The Department of Economics was also established along with other departments.It is among one of the oldest department of Kakojan College. Honourable Mr. Lakhi Borah was the founder member of the Department. Initially, the subject of Economics was taught in Pre-degree level and later on, it was introduced as core subject in the Degree level. Mrs. Nilima Bora joined the department in the year 1974. The Economics subject was introduced as major subject in the year 1983. The strength of faculty members was increased by joining of Mr. Anil Kr. Saikia and Mr. Rabindranath Duarah in the year 1984. In the year 1985, Mr. Deba Kanta Boruah also joined in the department. Mrs. Jinumoni Saikia has joined the department as Non-Sanctioned teacher in 1992 and got appointment against the vacant post in the year 2002. Ms. Rini Kramsapi and Dr. Nirmali Doley joined the Department in the year 2020 against the vacant post.
           An “Economic Study and Research Centre” was established on 2002 for academic development of the Department to build research habit among the students. Under the “Economic Study and Research Centre”, the department organizes a variety of events like popular talk, seminar, group-discussion, workshop, field study etc. to promote students’ interest in the subject.
